I’m a proud cat owner, and I understand the importance of keeping Journey healthy and happy. In this article, I’ll share some valuable tips and tricks on how to maintain your cat’s good health. Cat health is important to Purrect Woof.
Diet
For many years I overfed Journey with junk cat food. Journey weighed 17 lbs when I started her on her diet. I moved her to Hills science indoor 7+ wet and dry cat food. Wet cat food helps with the Hydration and dry helps with teeth. Now Journey is at a healthy 9 lbs. One of the most common Google search terms regarding cat health is their diet. As carnivores, cats need a diet that is high in protein and low in carbohydrates. Avoid feeding your feline friend human food as they may contain ingredients that are toxic to cats. If in doubt, consult with a veterinarian to know which type of food is ideal for your cat’s health.
Hydration
Another important aspect of a cat’s health is proper hydration. Make sure that your cat has fresh and clean water available at all times. Consider purchasing a water fountain as it encourages cats to drink more water, which helps prevent urinary tract diseases. I like to keep a small bowl of water in the bathroom away from the dogs. That way Journey has her own bowl and won’t be chased off.
Grooming
Regular grooming is also crucial for a cat’s health. Keep their coats in good condition by brushing them regularly to remove any loose hair or mats. Moreover, it is also an excellent opportunity to examine your cat’s skin and coat for lumps or any skin issues. There is a great brush that I use for dogs and cats. It’s made by Kong and called Zoom Groom. It takes the hair right off.

Check Ups
Another essential aspect of maintaining good cat health is regular visits to the vet. It is important to take your cat for an annual check-up or as recommended by your veterinarian to have them checked for underlying health issues. Vaccinations are also incredibly crucial to your cat’s health and protection against common deadly diseases. Journey had a vaccine reaction when she was 8 years old. She felt bad for a few days but recovered. It is important to watch over your loved ones after receiving a vaccine. Journey has had multiple vaccination since then and hasn’t had a problem
Exercise
Lastly, cats need regular exercise to maintain their health and mental well-being. Encourage them to play by providing stimulating toys, and a designated area for physical activity and movement. Journey never liked the IQ balls for cats. I came up with a game we would play. I would run around the apartment with her dinner as she chased me.
In conclusion, keeping our feline companions healthy and happy requires a combination of proper diet, hydration, grooming, vet visits, and regular exercise. By following these tips, you can ensure that your cat is healthy and happy for years to come. Please keep in mind that this is just an overview of basic cat health tips, and if you suspect any health issues, contact your veterinarian immediately.
